My name is Emily DiSalvo, and I am a journalism student at Quinnipiac University.
After college, I hope to pursue a career as a political reporter. Even now, I follow politics as closely as a political reporter might. For the past two summers I have been covering state politics for a local publication in Connecticut, and this spring I covered Capitol Hill for The Hill, a newspaper and website based out of D.C.
In 2016, Hillary Clinton ran a campaign that moved the Democratic Party to the Right in order to broaden the tent of voters. But some post-election analyses have suggested that this strategy actually lost her some voters on the left, like young people, who were looking for a more progressive vision. While I was not old enough to vote in 2016, I felt that the Democratic Party was ignoring its progressive faction. I think that for Joe Biden to be successful, he must embrace a progressive and bold policy platform.
I'll be taking a look at topics like climate change, healthcare, women's rights, housing and racial justice. Stay tuned!
